Monk's Cellar: the Church and the Papacy - Fr. Bradley Elliott, OP

Name of Location:
Monk's Cellar
Monday, January 13, 2020 - 7:00pm

Don't miss the first Veritas event of the decade as we welcome Fr. Bradley Elliott, OP.

The trajectory of the Catholic papacy in the contemporary world has wrought confusion in the lives of the faithful as many of the most time-honored truths upon which they have relied seem to be placed in question. The rhetoric of the current magisterium seems to confuse more than clarify. Are Catholics to worry? Are they simply to throw out the teachings once held so dear and, in their place, “sing a new church into being?” Simply put, no.

Rather, the time has come for Catholics – shaken and bewildered by current events – to reexamine the relationship between the papacy and their Catholic faith; that is, reexamine the role that the papacy ought to play in Catholic devotion, piety, worship, practice, and faith. This presentation a modest first attempt at such a reexamination. First, we will outline a brief history of the papacy in the light of developing political trends that have shaped it. Second, we will shed a theological light on this history so as to refresh and further deepen our faith in the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church founded by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Any young adult is welcome to attend, Catholic or not. These events are open to all between the ages of 18 and 39ish... if you are older, please do not join us in person.

As always, we wish to thank our friends at the Monk's Cellar for providing the best beer and great deals on food. You buying dinner is the best way to show your thanks. The beer is completely free to you and sponsored by St. Joseph Marello Catholic Church.

The event starts at 7pm. Show up early for a good seat.

Veritas is the place to meet amazing Catholics your age. Consider bringing a friend. This will be the perfect night for a first timer.
